DVD Shrink
When it's doing the backup in DVDShrink, I get this error sometimes that comes up and says DVD Shrink encountered and error and cannot continue. Failed to read file D:/ Data error (cycle redundancy check)
What does this mean, and how do I fix it? It's done it for 3 straight DVDs I've tried to copy. Does that indicate a bad disc? Also, in DVDShrink under the Target Device tab, what should the setting be? The choices are Burn with Nero, Create ISO Image File and Create DVD Files: Hard Disk Folder which one should it be set to? In ImgBurn, in the options tab for File System it is default set to ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF and UDF Revision is set to 1.02. Is that the correct settings, or should it be something else? |
DVD Shrink cannot be used to shrink data directly off a disc. It never really worked well on discs made prior to 2005, and it rarely works on discs made in more recent years. You need to have the video data ripped to the hard drive before attempting to shrink it. Use either DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab 5 in free mode to rip a disc. You can do it as FILES or ISO, both work fine.
In most cases, a normal DVD-Video uses ISO+UDF, no Joliet. There is almost no reason to use Joliet. I would suggest setting DVD Shrink to create an ISO file on the hard drive. Then manually open up ImgBurn and burn the ISO that way. |
Well, I've always copied my DVDs with DVDShrink. I put it in there and it does the analysis, and then the backup then when it's done it says it's backed up and ready to burn with your burning software, then I burn it in ImgBurn, and it's always worked fine..is that basically what you were saying?

You can't do that anymore if you want it to work reliably. You'll have to do it the way I mention above.
1. Rip to hard drive, DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab 5 (free mode) 2. Open ripped files in DVD Shrink, shrink to ISO. 3. Burn ISO with ImgBurn. Three pieces of software, three separate tasks. |
I've never used Decrypter. How do I use it for this particular project? Settings..etc..

When you say shrink to ISO in DVDShrink, do you mean change the setting to Create ISO File Image, and do the backup as I've always done? Is that what it means to shrink it, or is there something else that I need to do?
I just tried to decrypt a DVD with DVDDecrypter, and I got an error..a few of them actually. You also suggested that I use DVD Fab 5 Free Mode, do you have a guide for how to use it with DVDShrink, like the one you put the link up for with Decryter? Here's what the error said in Decrypter.. I/O Error! Device: [1:0.0] Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-115D 1.18 (D: ) (ATA) ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB: 28 00 00 00 A7 80 00 00 01 00 Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector 42880 Sense Area: F0 00 03 00 00 A7 80 0E 00 00 00 00 11 05 00 00 00 00 76 13 00 00 Interpretation: L-EC Uncorrectable Error Abort Retry Ignore What should I do? What does this error mean, and how do I fix it? It doesn't look good lol |
There is no guide for DVD Fab. There really is nothing to learn on it.
Shrinking means the data goes from 4.38GB+ to 4.37GB or less. ISO is one option to output. So yeah, sure, it sounds like I'm telling you to do what you've always done. |
I downloaded DVDFab and got it working before I got your reply. I brought it into DVDShrink, did the backup, and burned it and played fine.
