Are LightScribe DVD Drives Worth Using?
 

Hello! I just inherited an old LightScribe DVD drive from my work after we were cleaning out legacy devices. Would this type of drive be useful in not only DVD authoring but label making as well? From what I've read about LightScribe it seems intriguing, as I am getting started with more professional video capturing and DVD authoring for clients that want this format.

Not really, Light-Scribe was a great idea but using the very weak laser that is used to read discs at the same time for burning specially coated disc surfaces produced very faded graphics, A stronger laser was needed but that required a design change, I own one which I bought back in the day for reading HD-DVD's and burning Blu-rays and happened to have Light-Scribe and tried few discs and it looked gimmicky, will be selling very soon by the way. LGR did a video about it, go check it out.

Here's a video all about LightScribe. Basically it's a slow process and the printing quality of the label isn't very good.
