What is this camcorder cable used for?
 

I just bought an old Sony DCR-PC8E in good condition. One of the cables hat came with the camera I don't find in the manual and I can't figure out what it's used for. To me it seems like one audio, one video, one USB and maybe one mini-USB.

I wonder if this cable can be used with my camcorder?

Because, to me, it looks like a random cable. That happens a lot with used items on eBay, Facebook, etc. It's a sure sign that you're buying from somebody that knows nothing about the camera being sold. And that never ends well.

It's just an after market proprietary chinese crap like those firewire to USB cables, They can slap A/V connectors on one side and the other side they can add a USB, HDMI, D-SUB, you name it.

The solution was that I found out that the cable belongs to a digital camera. The seller sent the cable by mistake.

I'm not so forgiving. At best, the seller was careless. At worst, he/she lied. The seller more likely did what is referred to as "ass covering" (aka CYA, "cover your ass"), as they rarely know anything about what was sold. I see a lot of this. Getting the wrong wires from online sellers is an epidemic, far too common. They often CYA, claim "mistakes"/whatever, when in reality they had zero idea what wire went with it.

Your other thread, about this same camera (correct?), has other issues that are highly likely directly related to the camera not functioning correctly. So faulty camera, wrong wires ... that's sadly typical.

Again, this is why it is so ultimately important to buy used gear from somebody reputable and knowledgeable, not random nobodies. Then again, if people weren't so often buying cheap/used garbage, and having problems, this site would never get any content (which in turn helps others avoid the same mistakes). But after decades, it just keeps on happening, and getting worse. :depressed:
