1080 upconvert player with DVD+-R Playback

I'm looking for a good 1080p upconverting DVD player with excellent DVD+-R playback, any suggestions?

You'll have a hard time beating the
  • hardware quality,
  • features (DVD, DivX playback, 1080 upscaling, etc),
  • media capatability (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW),
  • or price
... of a Philips DVD player.

I'd look at this model: Philips DVP3560/F7 DVD Player with 1080p HDMI Upscaling and Multimedia DiVX
It's only $68 (with free shipping) from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B0046WGQLU

This assumes you're in North America. (And the above link is for Amazon USA.)

If you're elsewhere, let me know.

It really depends on what you want to spend, and what features you require it to have. For just basic playback of discs, any of them currently on the market tend to be fine. There's more troubles with computer software than anything else (I've run into cases where the Blu-ray won't play, and there are no software updates available for weeks and weeks -- if ever).

Samsung and Sony are generally safe choices.

Maybe browse the models available at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.ht...reative=390957
Then consider what you may want it to do. For example, do you need Netflix streaming?

If I were buying another Blu-ray player, I'd get this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000B60H0G
Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player, only $108 shipped (no tax, free shipping from Amazon)
It has some negative reviews, but the first 10 that I read were off-topic comments or the person didn't understand that the device wasn't at fault (it was the disc, the Internet connection, etc). As a wired player, used for playing discs, it fine.
