14bit RAW video with Canon cameras?

A recent release of the Magic Lantern enhancement firmware for Canon cameras allows raw video capture. Now you can shoot 3k raw video just like high-end cinema cameras. A converter changes the raw format to DNG which is compatible with edit suites. The quality is said to be excellent, rivaling other cameras like the Panasonic GH2. This is a breakthrough achievement for low-cost videography.

It's really nice that Magic Lantern has expanded the capabilities of so many Canon cameras. For this reason, among a few others, Canon is still a much better DSLR video choice than Nikon.

However, DSLR video is general is still a very special use format. Rolling shutter just kills it. Even 720p/1080p 60fps on the current bodies (2014) has too much errant motion to make a good camera. If you tripod mount it, and the subject is not moving too fast, it's awesome. Again, special uses only. It's not a general camcorder.

I wish this was not the case, but it is.

Maybe a perfect video DSLR will exist someday? We'll see. I'm guessing it won't exist for at least 5 more years, if ever. Video DSLR quality has not changed much in the past 5 years. The gains are always extremely minimal.
