Pros and Cons of 32-bit vs 64-bit media players?

Are there benefits to a 64 bit version, and if so, what are they?

Seems like it took MPC-HC a little while to get their 64*bit functionality sorted.

For my simple needs, the x32 version has been less problematic,
in either case I like the ease of using the .zip versions as portables since it's effortless to 'upgrade' -
plus it keeps my base OS image tidy.

I keep having a go w/ VLC, trying to tweak it a little bit more each time,
but keep going back to MPC-HC for its simplicity and the fact that it does what I need --

I know VLC does heaps of great things, if a person has need of those.

It's funny/odd how 'conditioned' you can get doing things 1 certain way which a software can dictate,
then when using another software, things just don't seem 'right' -
but only because of the prior conditioning, i reckon

I think the benefit of 64-bit are mostly theoretical, and not actual. At most, at some point in the future, the older 32-bit architecture apps will no longer receive updates. But right now, they both play files the same.

MPC is "better" simply because you can click it anywhere, or press the space bar, and it pauses.
With VLC, you have to find the little bitty || button. That's annoying to me.

I've caught VLC not following the colorspaces. VLC also does not want to play Huffyuv AVI files. So it's just an all-around bad choice lately.

Fitts' Law ! yaah -- I think the same person/group designed the buttons for Adobe Acrobat! :smack:

And that's my experience w/ VLC too -- I have to hack an AHK/StrokeIt key-binding
to make other mouse gestures or keystrokes do the work that MPC is already simply coded for.

Well thx for the info - I really couldn't think of a reason why the resource demand from a media player
would be so taxing as to demand > 3.x gb from a 32 bit system ....

but as you say, soon it simply won't be available,
and hopefully by then the coding will have caught up to the quirks of 64 bit.
