HD video clip has stuttering playback ?

i just watched the trailer of the superman returns high definition clip.
played back on quicktime player on the pc. (1.8GHz amd cpu)

cpu maxed out and picture was stuttering, ie stop-start of images, jumps from point to point (though not big jumps). this happened whether i played it full screen or in windowed mode.

then i tried playing clip via vlc player. much better results. smooth picture even in full screen mode. cpu barely 7%.

has anyone else had similar problems? is it just quicktime?

i tried loading clip (mov extension) in windows meadia player and cyberlink powerdvd, but no luck. neither played the trailer.

will future hd movies be similarly stuttering? will i need better/higher speced hardware or is it just a case of the software catching up?

Quicktime is not very good with HD/H.264 style playback.

It worked fine for me but then again I have Macs so the Quicktime works a bit better than its PC counterpart.

But I also agree VLC player works great, VLC player plays everything that Quicktime or Windows Media Player wont play on both platforms, no stupid codec issues or compatibility it seems
