Laser cleaning kits?

I used to use a laser clenaing kit for my cd player and most game systems.
but I haven't been doing that with my pc cdrom or burner.

Is this a good idea, bad idea?

Any feedback-

thanks

Bad Idea. Its best to use a q-tip and some form of cleaner. Acohol etc. LS knows exactly what to do. I had been taking in my Panasonic everytime it "Crashed" and they would wipe clean my HD EVERYTIME. Well LS said to open it up and carefully swipe the laser eye, it will move a little he said but thats normal. So I did it, it worked and everytime my unit doesnt read something I open her up, clean her and bam as good as new :)

I agree with Brent. Open it up . Clean it manually :) Those kits are okay for dvdrom in your pc.

Best thorough cleaning is do it by hand lol

Those cleaning kits are abrasive and often cause more damage. Open any optical device and swab the lens with alcohol. Then swab it dry. Only apply gentle pressure and swipe across it once or twice, first wet, then dry.
