[SOLD] For Sale: JVC S-VHS TBC decks to repair
When I fractured my wrist at the start of 2024, many of my refurb projects were put on temporary hiatus. However it's now the end of 2024, and I still have limitations. I've decided that I can no longer work on MV decks.
Lot of 5 units, total $1000 + shipping. - MV40 - REW/FF slips, otherwise excellent VCR - MV45 - VHS does not ingest, failed DVD drive (not important) - MV45 - no VHS image during play, tape gate not opening on eject - MV55 - unspecified LOADING error - MV40 - parts only, pick-n-pull deck - Bonus = Middle Atlantic 3U rack mount for MV decks, currently attached to the parts deck. Aside from the parts deck, all of these were purchased from eBay, and all were "tested" and "working" decks. I did not buy these myself, but rather accepted them in trade for a nice discount on my refurb'd decks. Each was, in some way, what I considered a "refurb candidate". I fully believe that each of these 4 units can be resuscitated, and made into excellent transfer decks in my A- to A+ range. I had already done some work on each, and was close on a few, when I was forced to stop. I also want to put my time towards improving this site -- and these funds would really help make that happen. Everything can fit in 2 boxes, though 3 is suggested for better padding. I'm taking a financial loss on these, and my loss can be your gain. I'm fine with it, I long ago came to terms with understanding that sometimes MS (and related) will do this to me. My desire is there, my health is not. PM if interested. :) FYI, to repair VCRs, what you mostly need is - patience - attention to detail - finesse (not be a hamfisted brute) - service manuals - screwdrivers - spudgers -- $10 kit from Amazon https://amzn.to/4aRjfTN - precision tweezers -- $8 set from Amazon https://amzn.to/3Kyjusc - magnetic screw bowl -- maybe $2 at Harbor Freight, or $5 from Amazon JVCs don't often have capacitor ("caps") issues, it's mostly mechanical breakdowns. The MV power boards are usually the only caps potential. |
Hi! I'm going to out myself as the person who purchased these decks. I won't be working on them. However, a good friend who's been working on electronics for 15+ years will be receiving them and taking a crash course in VCR repair. I'm quite certain he'll be able to resurrect most of the VCRs. He knows his electronics and is quite good at repairing them, along with having the stubbornness required to repair certain items the right way.
The bad news is that, on top of it being unknown if my buddy can resurrect the VCRs (although I have total faith in him), I don't know if I'm going to sell any fixed units. I do have a light but ongoing need for high-quality VCRs as part of archival work for various parties. Having backups of backups has been a long-term dream of mine for awhile. We'll see where all this goes. (If I do sell any decks, I'll sell them here and post as much proof as I can regarding capture quality.) The good news is that, if all goes according to plan, my buddy might be available for VCR repairs once he has some experience. I don't want to speak for him but he has done a lot of repair work for people, albeit mostly musical equipment. I'll keep everybody informed. Also, I may start making myself available for tape transfers. I have a TBC-1000 and am passively searching for a crispy AVT-8710, and I have a proper analog capture setup. We'll see where things go but it would be nice to pay off this crazy gear. :P |
