Updated list of what's currently available. :2cents:
My TBC supply has been steadily dwindling. If you're still on the fence about getting one, now would be a good time to act. For the NTSC TBC(ish) combos available at this exact moment, I'll consider reasonable offers. I will probably not offer TBC(ish) in the future, only full recommended TBCs. |
Have you got a TBC-1000 or a green AVT-8710 for sale?

But the CDM-1500 also behaves very similar to the TBC-1000, even more than the AVT-8710 does. It reacts to certain signal issues, like copy protection, almost identical to DataVideo TBC-1000/etc. |
I'd be interested in the CDM-1500. I'm not transferring anything that's copy protected.

PM sent. :) Quote:
The green AVT-8710 has not been manufactured in over a decade. The flawed black model took its place around 2010. The flawed black AVT-8710 was fully discontinued a couple of years ago due to the needed chips no longer being manufactured. That probably would have necessitated a redesign of the unit, but instead Cypress chose to retire it. There is nothing illegal about timebase correction, nor am I aware of any lawsuits involving Cypress or rebadgers like TVOne. Even the pricing shown on their site is unreal, this TBC was never than low, even back in 2005. I could see where the flawed black models may have been clearance priced at $185, as nobody really want them, and many were returned to vendors like B&H and Adorama. But not the green one. I still remember when it was on backorder, with those orders never filled, back around 2008 or so. Anyway, right now, I have good TBCs, the units you need for quality transfers. PM sent. :) |
Added a few.
This time last year, I ran out of TBCs, and there was a dry spell for months. Nobody had any TBCs. |
Very few units are now remaining. :2cents:

Sent you a PM
-- merged -- Lordsmurf can you please post the Datavideo TBC-100 PCI card to me. Why won't you reply to the PM and email I sent to you. I paid for it over a week ago and I haven't heard anything from you since. |

- I'm an individual, not Amazon Prime. Shipping takes me time. You'll get an email with the subject "Tracking!" within a few days of being sent. - When you "send" a payment, that's not necessarily the date when actually received. In this case, it's only been a few days, not a week. Patience. :) I'd considered deleting this post, moving it to PM, but others probably need to read this as well. There's been a severe lack of patience from folks in recent months. |
patience is a virtue :)

Bump. :)
TBCs are getting hard to find, but I'm still finding a few. However, most need work first. So I often spend my days tinkering with TBCs, often total tear-downs, refurb'ing them back into excellent shape for our capturing community. |

A few months ago I saw a TBC-1000 on Ebay that sold for $1400! Ridiculous. I decided I could design a TBC from scratch for less than that. So I've been working on a TBC design during quarantine.
Currently using a Xilinx Spartan 7 FPGA + Micron DDR3 RAM + TVP5150AM1 ADC + ADV7171 DAC. If I can get this working, I'll make a thread here with more info (might take a while). Just wanted you to know that I'm frustrated about the lack of TBCs too! Board work-in-progress attached for anyone who's interested. Thanks for all the helpful info lordsmurf! |

There is a reason that only certain TBCs are suggested, and why I only sell those. When you develop a TBC with only your own sources for dev/testing, you can easily get a wrong/skewed idea of how well it works. I'd strongly suggest that anything you develop, and want stress tested, that you send it to me. I can break most TBCs, find their flaws and weaknesses, using my testing library (collected over decades). It probably will take you longer than expected, if completed at all. This isn't the first time somebody has told me they wanted to build a DIY TBC, and surely won't be the last. But to date, none have happened. It's just not that easy. But still, good luck! Quote:
The main reason that Cypress and DataVideo no longer make TBCs is due to the chips needed no longer being fabbed. (Though the successor to the TBC-100 lineage, the TBC-5000 line, was crap. And Cypress screwed up in 2010 and never fixed the flaws. So TBC manufacturers went out with a whimper, weren't really missed.) But this is a marketplace threads ... not a general discussion thread. :wink2: |
Thanks lordsmurf! Not trying to hijack your thread -- sent you a PM with some more info.

I PM'd but is that Cypress CDM-8120 still available? thank you
|
What TBCs do you have that you would recommend for converting VHS with a Panasonic AG-1980?
|
Since AG-1980 has a line tbc, I recommend a full frame tbc like datavideo tbc products.
