Longterm storage for DVD drives?
How is long-term storage and Optical DVD Drives done? is it possible to store them without damaging them due to disuse?
|
Damage from disuse? Sure, mechanical parts exist, like HDDs. But we all do it anyway. I don't pull out my extra DVD drives until needed. I don't have time to always test backup/reserve drives.
I have my extra drives in a box in the closet. Same box has HDDs, are some other misc parts. |
don't you use these drives that are stored and they still work mechanically? what is the maximum period allowed that can not use the drive and it does not present problems?

Most drive fine, only had two go bad after being stored for 10+ years. Same drive weren't great before storing anyway. Those were not bought for replacement, both had been used for at least a few years.
Your other question has no answer. 42. |
do you keep DVD drives in storage for 10 years and are they okay?
have to use them every month to not damage the mechanics, electronics and optical lens reader |
