Who makes UJ-857D?

I have some TDK double-layer DVD+R's. The ID returned by my MacBook and by the program DVD Media Inspector is UJ-857D. I don't see that listed on the page http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is and what the quality is? Thanks.

OK, I see from further browsing that UJ-857D is the ID of my burner, not the media itself. But the page http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm seems to suggest that the program DVD Media Inspector is supposed to return the ID of the media, and the *only* thing it returns is UJ-857D.

Actually, you're reading the drive model. Your Apple, like many others, has a Matshita DVD-R UJ-857D burner inside. That's not the disc ID.

Look for something along the lines of TDKG or CMC or CMCMAG followed by other letters/numbers. That's the media ID.

Easy mistake. :)

Ah! You beat me to it.
You can also look for the media ID inside of most versions of Toast.

Unfortunately, I'm Mac-less these days, so I can't take a screen shot of exactly what you need to look for. (Know anybody that has one cheap, or wants to make a donation to our cause?)

It was recently mentioned on another site that...
Quote:

you can simply find the media ID by
- putting the disc in your drive,
- going to System Profiler,
- then to Disc Burning.
If a disc is in the drive, it will display the supported burning speeds, types of discs supported, as well as the media ID of the disc that is currently in the drive.
Maybe that will help, too! :)

Thanks for the reply. I discovered that the way to use the program is to highlight the drive name and ID number. Unfortunately, *still* nothing showed up, except a message to the effect that some drives are not able to read the media ID information. (Which, no doubt, is why nothing except "DVD+R DL" showed up in System Profiler either.)
