CD error-checking for Macintosh?

I doubt anyone will know, since nobody has been able to find out anywhere else, but I'll persist.

Is there error-checking software (that's any good) for
Macintosh computers?

I'm using OS 9.I could boot into OS X if necessary.

It's highly frustrating not to be able to run any tests on my burns because all the software is written for PC.It's also hard to believe that with the number of people using Macs and audio out there there isn't SOMETHING for doing this.

If you know of any, you'll be the first!

Right now, the closest thing I know of to media tools is simply to find the media ID.

DVD Media Inspector for OS X: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/showthread.php/software-media-id-393.html

As much as Mac users hate to hear Windows get "one up" on them, the fact is that Apple poorly supports DVD burning as compared to PCs. Mac is just not a great machine for DVD burning. It works, yes, but most advanced software is non-existant, and even the ability to reliably control burn speeds or update firmware is sorely lacking. Apple should know better. Part of the issue may even be based on the fact that OS X is Linux/Unix-based, another platform that has few options in this area. They've all but abandoned OS 9, even though many people (myself included!) still prefer it. I found X a complete aggravation and RAM/CPU hog (worse than Windows XP).

I'll ask around, see what any of my associates may know on this.

Oh, yeah, OS X.
I don't know about that - I'm still using OS 9. The software is Toast (Roxio). I don't know much about other burning software (except Hotburn), but Toast seems to be able to do everything.

You found it in **Japanese** - !It must exist in English too somewhere, will look.Anything you find out will help. I already asked the Mac list and got a deafening silence. However, I have also noticed that sometimes people on there just ignore some questions.

The closest you can really get, after thinking about it more, would be to create an ISO file on your hard drive from the CD or DVD. Watch the read lights, and listen to the drive. See if the lights show the drive re-reading a portion of the disc, or if the drive makes odd noises on a certain spot of the disc.

That's the old-fashioned way of verifying CDs, before scanning tools existed (at least before they were accessible to consumers).

Roxio Toast 6 should be able to extract an ISO from disc to hard drive. As well as any number of "ripping" softwares (MactheRipper, Yadex, etc).
