Should I buy an external recorder USB? What's recommended?
 
Which usb burner do you recommend?

Get a full-sized drive from Pioneer, Samsung/Toshiba, Sony, or LiteOn.

LiteOn would actually be my fourth choice, but it can be easier to get than the others.

Philips doesn't actually manufacture drives, and is just a brand name, so you always need to see what's actually inside.
From what I can find online, some SPD3400CC owners have opened their drives and posted the true model online: a LiteON DH-18A1P.
As per above, LiteON drives are fine.

It looks to be a European model, not one found in North America.
