Problem burning EP blank DVDs on Panasonic
i have a panasonic dvd recorder which is supposed to permint 8 hours of ep recording - and automatic setting - it did in the past with other brand dvds but i am now using sony discs and i don't know if the problem is the recorder or the discs- panasonic says it is the disc but it happens repeatedly - i can record several hours on automatic and then up to 8 on manual
but if i have 4 hours already recorded and i set it for an automatic additional 2 or 3 hours it will not record - it will say no time left even though at the start it said 4 hours left i could just record 4 and stop trying but i wonder if anyone has any experience with this problem - i could buy another brand or i could set the ep for 6 hours - i just don't know which way to go with it - if try to record manually over the 4 hours it will record but usually the programs i want to record are in the wee hours of the am - mostly operas from great performances at the met so i need to use the automatic |
you may want to consider getting a DVR instead.
burning EP on a DVD yields very poor picture quality i never put more than 2.5 hours on a DVD the only good blank DVD's are Mitsubishi-Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden JVC |
dvr
i am using a dvr - it is a panasonic dvd recorder - it gave me very good recordings until the recent problem with the advanced recording of ep
i will probably have to try another brand as you suggested but i am not sure that the disc is the problem - i wonder what others have experienced with this problem thank you |
a DVR records shows onto a hard drive
they better than using optical discs for mundane recordings |
hard drive recording
i see the difference - thank you - but once it is on the hard drive to what do you transfer it to save
my recorder did do very well for several years without the hard drive - if i knew it was the recorder and not the disc i would go that way - i might try the verbatim discs and if the problem continues get the hard drvie type of recorder i got this type because i had a lot of operas on vhs and was able to recored them onto dvds thanks again |
from a hard drive you can copy it to what ever media you want.
if you want to keep something you need redundant copies homemade DVD's dont last forever - the dyes fade over time some cheaper discs wont even last a few years. burned DVD's are not a good sole archive. professional made DVD's are pressed not burned and definatly dont use EP mode for important stuff the bit rate on EP is so low it is ridiculous |
thanks; disappointing
thanks - that's disappointing to hear- with vhs i kept them may years- and so far i've been recording on dvds which have lasted 5-6 years - i hate to lose all the recordings i've made
i love my collection; at least you have warned me - thanks |
That's a strange issue. When did you buy your recorder and what model is it?
|
panasonic dmr-ez37v
i bought in 2007 i believe
|
kpmedia says that Volksjager is reading his mind.
Unfortunately Panasonic has never been a good recorder. Players and recorders last about 2-5 years or about 2000 hours of use. It's good that you got that much use out of it, but it sounds like its on its last dying breath. |
thanks -
i just wasn't sure if it was the panasonic or the discs
|
It could be either.
Test some other brands, older discs if you can, 1x or 2x speed and see if you can record on them. |
thanks
that is what i will do - i didn't have the problem when i used memorex but the machine was newer- i thought sony might be better but the problem has come up since i started using sony discs -but not at first
