Datawrite/Datasafe discs

Are these Datawrite or Datasafe discs from the UK any good? Does anyone know?

markatisu 06-15-2006 07:37 AM

I think the Datawrite are fine, should be MCC media code. LS knows the specifics as does wigam about UK media and coding

Remember the UK does not have the same brands as the US so most of the time you will be dealing with Datawrite or other named brands.

Datawrite and Datasafe are online-only brands. It's a misconception that "known name brands" are not available outside the USA. You can get Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, Imation, Sony, and quite a few more throughout Europe and Australia.

Datawrite can be okay, it can be junk. It all depends on the media code, as well as some other advanced factors (grading, plant location, etc).

Dont most people go with the online brands because the in-store brands are ridiculously expensive?

I know we had a debate a while back because we were trying to help UK people learn about media code since the retail stores were charging as much as 4x what the online retailers were. I know it has to be something like that because otherwise Ahmed would not buy hardware in the US and have me ship it to him in the UK, hard drives and computer parts cant be considered that different than media?

Not really. There are certain shoppes that sell "big brand" discs for prices comparable to what we pay on the pricier sales. These are mentioned on videohelp and cdfreaks and other sites from time to time.

Australia especially has good media for good prices... they have TY (That's brand), TDK, SONY and others.

Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, Imation, Sony are available in this country. The difference is cost. They do tend to cost more. As prices in the states drop, this eventually (emphasis on the eventually) follows the trend. This is apparent with DL which are really expensive at the moment.

Hardware is completely different. We always get shafted lol

To the question in hand, i have used datawrite media, its a decent brand (as is datasafe) unlike bulkcraq, but it still depends on the media codes. Some of them will use cmc=crap. Whilst the stuff i have used has been fujifilm and MCC which have been good for me. At the moment i have plextor and verbatim i am using.

Plextor media in UK is Taiyo Yuden.
Verbatim media in UK is MCC.

Good choices.
