I want to have raw lossless master digital copies to backup my family home videos. Is there a guide available?

Here is what I've done so far. Is this sufficient to get the best quality raw analog source backed up before learning how to edit/convert the videos?

So far:

1) JVC S9911U > Startech USB3HDCap

2) VirtualDub installed with HuffyUV

3) VirtualDub Steps:

File>Capture AVI
File>Set Capture File>FamilyVideo01.avi
Device>Selected
Video>Preview selected
Video>Compression>Huffyuv 2.1.1
Audio>Enable Audio Capture selected
Capture>Click Capture Video

NOTES:

1) I noticed the window on right under Sync>Current error it says -3ms (is this normal)

2) Is there a guide that shows the best settings to use while capturing raw analog video so I have the best master quality file saved on my computer, or am I doing it the right way now already to get the best possible backup master copy of the VHS into digital format before learning to do any editing?

Thank you!!

I found this guide: https://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/vi...virtualdub.htm

I'm using VirtualDub 1.10.4

Capture>Settings I changed framerate 59.9405 to 29.97
Video Format> 640×480 (((Should I be capturing my raw master copies at a different resolution)))?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again

Yep 720x480 interlaced 29.970 fps, stick to that

And i'm not sure Vdub is the tool for that (never used in 20 years for caps), i still use virtualvcr and i hear amarectv is not bad. Food 4 thought

LS reckons you should be using Virtual Dub 1.9.11

And i'm not sure Vdub is the tool for that
I like it because of the histogram.
