List of analog television broadcast systems?
This is a list of every analog television broadcast system. I'm a little fuzzy on which countries used what, so I've left some of them blank and I think there's a few other countries that are missing.
NTSC-J: Japan NTSC-M NTSC-N PAL B/G: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangledash, Australia, and New Zeleand PAL D/K: China PAL-I: UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, South Africa, Macau PAL- L: France and Luxembourg PAL-M: Brazil PAL-N: Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay SECAM-B/G: East Germany, Greece, Cyprus SECAM-D/K: Russia SECAM-H SECAM-K SECAM-L: France, Luxembourg, and Monaco SECAM-M: Cambodia and Vietnam Also, I have a few questions so that there's no confusion 1) When did France change to PAL? 2) Can a PAL VCR play a SECAM tape? |
A PAL only VCR cannot playback a native SECAM tape in color, Some Multi-system units do playback both native SECAM and native PAL.

PAL-B/G/etc is broadcast format, not tape format.
PAL is PAL. Then you have PAL-M, PAL-N. The non-format PAL-60. NTSC-J isn't really a format, just a shorthard for "the numbers" (mhz). There is no NTSC-N. It's an aborted shorthand for a screwy quasi mess of incestuous PAL. Same for SECAM. SECAM is SECAM, aside from France, or MESECAM (PAL+SECAM, middle east). All of the PAL/SECAM stuff went away during the late 2000s digital transition. A few countries were late to the party, didn't get the memo on time, so early 2010s switchover. |
