Not getting email notifications for PM anymore?

Hello,

Am I the only one not receiving email from dfaq for thread I subscribed to, nor when I get PMs?

I double-checked my settings:

Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages is marked.
Default Thread Subscription Mode: Instant

Argh, I forgot about PM notify. :mad3:

Microsoft email has been an issue for a few months now. So Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, Live.com, etc. And the other TLDs like Hotmail.co.uk, etc. Emails send from the forum just blackhole, no bounce, nothing.

I don't know how to fix this.

PTR is set, no outbound filters blocking it -- everything seems set correctly.

A lot of these providers are deep sixing incoming e-mail that doesn't have DKIM or SPF. The days of running a simple SMTP relay configuration is pretty much over.

Al; the records are here: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, ADSP, PTR.

Their SNDS is worthless, and support emails are templates of ridiculousness ("did you turn it off and back on?" level stuff).

Here's an exim log entry:
Code:

And you're probably thinking "well, it tells you right there what the problem is -- you're on the block/black list!" But no, you'd be wrong.
- Sometimes they claim you're not blocked, nothing can be done.
- Sometimes entire ranges (maybe even ASNs?) can be blocked. Buckshot approach to email blocking. Microsoft was even blocking entire /16 !!! For the novice internet users that's 65,536 IP address at a time. Entire ISPs, entire cities, could be blacklisted.

Lots of complaints, and from extremely knowledgeable admins

If you look on pg2 of that thread, they even block paid emails services like AWS/Sendgrid/etc.

Freemails are largely garbage, but Microsoft (Hotmail/Outlook/Live/etc) is the worst of them. It's the modern AOL. Somebody is at Microsoft is an idiot, and should be head upside the head with a shovel.

Some people have given advice:
https://www.smartdigitalsolutions.co...otmail-outlook
https://blog.paranoidpenguin.net/202...y-mail-server/
... but it's extremely hit-or-miss.

I'm also wondering if they have stringent hidden TLS needs.

New member registrations are actually banned from using the most common Microsoft emails. But I forgot about current member PM/thread notify.

Changing the server IP might help.

Sometimes things just happen and there ain't much you can do. IMHO, use an SMTP relay, things like mail baby, or even lower end like namecrane and mxroute never failed me.

Banning MS users is not a solution. MS emails are still among the best and have a big market share if we're being honest, along with gmail. They are still much better than AOL, and that joke called yahoo mail. And let's not even talk about those ISP free mails they offer to their clients, these do not even work :/

LS, try testing with this site. Just register account here using the email they provide.

https://www.mail-tester.com/

Might be something simple. If you are using Cpanel one thing to look for is from field, if the php script doesn't explicitly set it then it defaults to the cpanel account name which may be non existent email address and different from the sender.
