What TV shows are Presented in Dolby Surround Sound?
 

I like the early seasons of Arthur because PBS used our tax money to be able to legally put "presented in Dolby Surround" said in the corner of the intro. Was wondering if there are any other TV shows that do this? I'm surprised Evangelion doesn't, given I hear a lot of matrixed rear info in its 2.0 mixes.

There were some TV shows rip I did that had a "presented in surrounded sound" logo, probably was the X-Files or something.

I know they had a 'simulcast in Spanish' text blurb, think most shows would probably have a close caption logo too.

Funny enough ... hey, Aya, this is your thing! ... I'm almost certain that Futurama did.

This was really popular from around '96 to maybe '06. I watched a lot Fox back then. No, not Fox News (blech!), but Fox.

- other one-off neat things, like the KISS concert from '98 (which I have recorded to S-VHS!), and the Generation X movie

I really do not remember it much after '10, or even on non-Fox channels. If not mistaken, ATSC changed how this all worked. Pre-DTV, the costs to broadcast multi-channel audio was steep. Some flagship PBS probably did have it.

I've also read where broadcasts actually had surround sound, but did not advertise it.

Dolby Surround is mixed into the stereo multicasting matrixing.

Supposedly, some of my S-VHS recordings may have surround buried in the HiFi tracks, but I'm dubious that's correct. But I could be wrong, and that would be neat!

FYI, my broadcast knowledge is heaviest from the DTV transition era. I just started to understand analog broadcasting when it all went away, and was replaced by complex digital multicast, IP routers, etc. I still have the white papers, but never finished. Why? I was roped into the "still-new" streaming world in the mid/late '00s. If I looked, I'm sure I'd find protocols/docs on surround audio encoding!

Maybe they did? I can't exactly remember, seeing how I always cut out the main programming of all the California TV recordings I've done, since I only cared for the commercials.

Only exceptions being TV movies and sitcom episodes that have not gotten any home media release.

Are there any Japanese shows, whether it be animated or live action, that have mention of Dolby Surround matrixing via the logo? I think an anime OP or ED would be much more epic if it were subconsciously saying “Don’t change the channel when you could turn on your Pro Logic decoder!”

I enjoy seeing retro-ized things like this. Things that could have, maybe should have, existed back then. Just make it clear it's a recreation, forbid we make more myths.
