External proc amp, converter, TBC, Snell & Wilcox, Kramer?
Hello,
I would like just to share some impressions about some gear that I recently acquired to help me with vhs tape capture. Snell & Wilcox Mach 1 M.Sc Mach 1 M.Sc can do many things manual The Reduce noise feature is pretty good and come with a lot of tweaking option. So far best noise reducer that I saw at the hardware level. I didn't compare to Neat Image but it look in the same league.... Proc amp include luminance gain, black level, chroma gain and RGB legalizer. And sure you have all the converting option that come with it. For the Snell & Wilcox Mach 1 you need this special cable to goes s-video. I think Snell and wilcox do many model with this noise reduction feature, so you may look not only for the Mach 1 if you are looking for this feature... Kramer SP-11D Pretty complete Pro-amp with TBC. I use it mainly for it's ability to play with RED; GREEN and BLUE color but it have many others tweaking options. manual I re-did a job with a noisy tape with those guys in serie with improved the result. If you are able to get them cheap, that could be interesting alternative to add to your workflow.:2cents: |

http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...er-sp-11d.html there is no consumer recorder of a clean and time-constant signal outputs. You need either a broadcast recorder such Ex. JVC BR.Sx22 ........ or Pana AG-8700/8600/7750/7650 Or a good external TBC. We had here in old Europe in addition to the Kramer SP 11D also devices from Snell & Wilcox tested [NRS50] The Kramer and the Snell & Wilcox equipment have been built for movies from VHS ollen [S-VHS] recorder. These devices expect a clean signal. |
I did not noticed this green line....anyway it look like it's in the overscan region...if so... it's no big deal

Green stripes, a different user was reported.
I have something not. The head switch Noise [German = Kopfumschaltbereich] I cover with Avisynth or in Edius. I wanted to write that consumer recorders do not provide a clean signal the TBC in Kramer and also with the Snell Wilcox NRS50 can not do anything with VHS Consumer signals. The Kramer SP 11D I use for color shifts and output via SDI ProcAmp enough here the Canopus NX Map Pictures of the NX I've shown here. I turn the Snell & Wilcox .... race all customers away Because of the noise of the fan is too loud |
I always enjoy reading about what others experience. :)

But sometimes that's a lot of testing work not always you will be paid God give me plenty of free time and even more brain Here are some pictures from my archive |
Hello,
Here is some video showing that in my set-up, SP-11D and Mach 1 can be use with commercial VCR. The footage is from 1981 from a conference speaker. For Mach 1 NR feature, I used maximum setting. Recursive Level= C off (chroma); Y high (luma) Recursive Threshold = 7 (max) Median Filter ON Enjoys:congrats: JVC SR-W7 TBC OFF Jumping video with ugly colors. JVC SR-W7 TBC ON Video stabilized, still a bit shaky and ugly colors SR-W7 TBC ON + Kramer SP 11D Video Jumping; Interference!? better colors SR-W7 TBC OFF + SP 11D Turning SR-W7 TBC off solve jumping problem, better colors SR W7-TBC ON + MACH 1 Video is less dark; NR applied; video a bit shaky. SR-W7 TBC OFF + MACH 1 Video is less dark; NR applied; video is stabilized. SR-W7 TBC OFF + MACH 1 + SP 11D Stable video with acceptable colors and exposure. SR-W7 TBC is unique vs others JVC TBC, I decided to try with HM-DH40000 player where the TBC is always active. HM DH40000 Video is stable; colors and exposure off... HM DH40000 + MACH 1 + SP 11D honrizontal HM-DH40000 TBC does not interference with Kramer SP-11D and Mach 1. In this case Mach 1 NR was apply below the horizontal line... |

I notice that both of the "pro" TBCs exhibit bending at the top of the frame. |

In this case they gave me "the true wall color" and precise Instruction for the face exposure of the speaker. The were happy and I got paid... |
The HM-DH40000U internal TBC is a full frame system, it always outputs a stable continuous signal. An external full frame TBC isn't needed unless the source is copy protected. Its also why the S&W and Kramer boxes don't interfere.
