Sony VO-5600 pinch roller not staying in place
 

I have a Sony VO-5600 which was working then started to not catch the pinch roller at the top of the third threading position. At first I could place my finger next to it and it would catch most times but now it does not stay after I move my finger.
The solenoid goes down catches the roller for a second and then let's it lose like it is not detecting the tape or something is misaligned. I have tried multiple things but nothing seems to correct the problem.

Could anyone give me a clue what the problem might be?
