Want to learn video editing, but nothing to edit?

Do you guys have any tips for raw footage or what kind of footage I can record myself to learn video editing. I want to learn how to make great videos with smooth transitions and maybe a few effects if it fits for the video. Any tips appreciated!

I already have the software I need I believe. I ahve all the adobe programs, but please tell me if you have any other suggestions!

A simple phone camera is a good way to start. Go someplace local you won't raise suspicions, and start recording. Animals, trees, water flowing, traffic, practice panning s-l-o-w-l-y, walk smoothly, film in bright places, and dim places, alter frame rates in the camera to see what they do. Variety and something interesting and you'll be smitten with the editing bug.

Do what many of us did: edit cartoons, TV shows. :)

These days, it's as simple as downloading something of high quality off Youtube. Ideally, convert it to lossless in VirtualDub first, then important that lossless file to edit in the NLE (Adobe Premiere). Then edit a masterpiece.

In the old days of digital, it meant capturing VHS tapes, or recording off-air with a TV tuner. Of course, both of those are still viable, but take longer than a quick download.
