Repair source for JVC SR-W5U needed
Does anyone still work on SR-W5U units? I think a bad tape killed mine. It seems a shame to discard given how sought after they are for some users.

Just for discussion, I uploaded a 30 second or so grab of what the unit is doing now. I uploaded a second video of a SR V10U for comparison. There is static every 10, 15 seconds. And the screen appears a bit darker than a 1980 or V10U.
So I guess it isn't dead dead. Just not usable. |
You may find Stanton TV Repair in Elmsford, NY is able to help with the JVC SR-W5U.

Looks like it's not managing to lock the servo to the control track on the tape. Could be caused anything from dirty control head or corroded cable contacts to something hard to fix like a bad chip.

I hope it isnt a chip. This started after I tried to back up an extremely low grade tape used to record an old college class. It locked the player up and I had take the top off to get the tape out. After that I've had this tracking issue.
