Mitsubishi HS-U82 Frequent Playback Problems
 

I have a Mitsubishi HS-U82. Just replaced the belt.

About 80% of the time, playback will be problematic (black and white, black line through screen, snow, etc).
20% of the time playback is without issues.

If the picture does not look good, I eject the tape and reinsert it. Simply stopping and then playing again will result in same picture.

Envelope looks great on my oscilliscope when playback is successful. Is there something I am missing here, possibly an issue with loading? Or could there be something wrong with the heads?

I have the European HS-E82 with the same symptoms as yours. Have you made any progress?

12voltvids has a yt video on repairing one of this, idk if it helps tho. It apparently has some crazy head drum where the heads can move.

12voltvids is masterful. His videos helped me with a mechanical fault and the problem with the famous capacitor on the little daughter card. Now this intermittent error remains for me.
