Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U freaky colors
 

So I happened upon what looked like an immaculate HS-HD2000U at an estate sale. But when I played some tapes in it, the colors were really messed up (see attached screen captures). The interesting thing is, the colors are just fine when I pause, FF or RW. I'm thinking it is a head issue? Any ideas where to start? I already did a manual head cleaning with isopropanol and paper.

Did you try with the TBC/DNR disabled as a troubleshooting step? During playback only, if you don't have the remote, hit the round button on the right side of the front panel. Lights up green when enabled. (But doubles as 3DYC indicator/toggle in modes other than playback.)

Yes, I forgot to mention the TBC does not affect the colors, the TBC was on for the attached videos. I have the remote.
