How to remove bottom cover from JVC SVHS?
 

How do I remove the bottom cover from my JVC SVHS player. See photo. I assume I need to push out the metal flap things. What's the best way to do that? Flat screwdriver? Is that all I need to do or are there other screws I can't see? I don't recognize anything that looks like a typical screw.

I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos but haven't found many examples of people taking off the bottom and when they do, there appear to be typical screws, not what I have.

If the tape is eaten during playback the most likely cause is a worn clutch pads, If during fast forward or rewind most likely the brake pads for take up and/or supply spindles.

Most modern JVC decks have the bottom covered with plastic even if you take the metal plate out, You will have to remove the entire mechanism out of the VCR case.

Based on your picture the screws are on the opposite side, If there is access to them remove them and slide the metal plate slightly forward and it should come loose.

Taking off the bottom plate won't give you access to much on modern VCRs like this, as they are designed with the mechanism sitting on top of the main PCB. Instead you have to remove the mechanism from the top by removing screws/clips, exact procedure depends on model, service manual should show though (one for the EU/EK variants may be close enough for this purpose).

The VCR shown in the video linked one of the early 90s JVCs and has a pretty different mechanism so not sure if it instructions in that will help all that much in this case.
