AG-1980 Y/C board subsitute SMDs?
1 Attachment(s)
im working on the Y/C board, yep, the 21 SMDs and the 12 pin hole capacitors, ive cleaned off all the old caps,
didnt even bother to check them, just removed, to replace, now im looking at my stock on hand of pin hole caps vs SMD style, and find that im short several of the 47 / 6V of the SMD style, but have an abundance of the pinhole type, i want to know, is there any difference? can i use the pin hole version, in replacement for the SMD, with exact spec's of course, same uf/v of each? it would sure make my work alot easier, let me know if anyone has done this, and how did it work out for you? thanks your anyones input on this subject Fish |
As long as they don't interfere with other boards and the components adjacent to them as well as they don't obstruct air flow to other components surrounding them I don't see why not.

Probably, but check the sp0ecs (e.g., temperature, ESR, etc.) as well as physical size to be sure your proposed replacements are similar. or better rated, otherwise you might not get the expected performance.. Might be worth taking a few minutes to measuring your replacements before you install just to be sure they are good, especially if they are old bench stock..
I have replaced SMD with radial lead caps on other gear such as a wireless mic system with success. |

thanks for the input guys!! Fish |
WOW! That's quite the improvement :)
This is a great example of the impact of new caps -- in this case on the Y/C board. |
