Magnavox MDR535H/F7 unit shuts off, error 079?

I wonder if anyone can help in trying to figure out why the above unit does: Format the HDD with using the skip codes shift 079 and the unit shuts off, same with SKIP 013. The unit see A hard drive but when using the skip codes, it shuts off. This would be with sata drives, both 2.5 and 3.5... Tried using wiped hd complete clean, no go, used fat 32, no go, tried NTFS drive, nogo all just shut down

The digital tuner works fine and I can see channels great.

Any help?

dvd/hdd combo recorders use Ext2 (or 3 ) file system (like linux). I don't know this unit to help further

Thanks :-) I did format one of the drives as Ext2 and it still just shut down the unit after trying to format the HDD. The unit see the drive as it shows in the menu and says some weird statement "This system is unconstruction of the file system"

Then the menu shows:

HDD format start: enter
Power off: Power

then I hit enter on the remove the unit shuts down. see attached files

Many also use customer file systems, and often won't even boot without a correctly formatted drive inside.
