Phillips VR1000 static sound on Hi-Fi stereo?
Dear The Digital FAQ community,
I’m facing an unusual issue with a VCR (Phillips vr1000 S-VHS) that I picked up from a used market, The issue is when I playback a VHS cassette the picture seems good but there’s a constant static sound on HI-FI Stereo tapes. |
Need an audio sample from the audio out.

It looks like you have severe HiFi head switch noise, You can get rid of it by moving the switch point between audio head A and audio head B on the video drum, But before doing that find out how many tapes are exhibiting the problem, Clean the entire tape transport and make sure there is no loose or broken tape path components.
Here is how to do it if you have a VCR with drum motor on top, Proceed at your own risk, Keep in mind there is a sweet spot between excessive audio head switch noise and video head switch noise, You have to find it, but it will not be the same spot for all tapes unfortunately: https://youtu.be/AqGmOiU41i8 |

Hi, apparently the issue is with the tape I played earlier, just found another tape that sounds ok in HiFi Stereo.
This is a new sample, please take a look. Attachment 17103 |
