Hi! I have a question. A couple of years ago, I bought a serviced SR-MV45 from LordSmurf. Long story short, it didn't work when it arrived, and I wasn't able to send it back for repairs, or even get recommendations on how to repair it. I put the repair job on the backburner for various reasons and am now finally getting around to it.

I think the only problem is that some sort of roller came loose in transit. When I opened up the deck, some sort of hard rubber roller was rolling around. The deck would try to play a tape that I popped in. Unfortunately, the tape wouldn't move, so the output was stuck on one frame and was garbage. I assume that the roller's needed somewhere to move the tape.

Below are a couple of pics I sent LS back in the day. I can take better pics if necessary. (FYI, they'll disappear around mid-June 2024.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm not a repair expert by any means but I can DIY it assuming this is nothing crazy. Worst case, I know some guys locally who can probably help, so long as I transfer some tapes for them.

That's the easiest fix, Though you need to find the pinch roller's retainer, It's a small plastic ring that holds the pinch roller on the pinch roller arm shaft, If it's cracked you would need a replacement, Can be obtained from any VCR that uses the same diameter shaft regardless brand or model. Worst comes to worst if the retaining ring is cracked put it back on and put a tiny dab of glue to hold it to the shaft, Do not use destructive glue like super glue, You want to be able to remove it in the future.

For that model that has the pinch roller mounted upside down you may need to remove the arm assembly to perform the repair.

Thanks! I'm not sure if there was a plastic ring rolling around in the VCR. I'll look again. If not, do you know where I could find another retainer? I'd imagine it's a pretty standard part if you know what to look for.

I don't know where to find one, just find some junk VCRs, But make sure it is not inside the VCR or it will cause some damage later on if it goes between gears.

I'm still not clear on exactly what part(s) are needed here. I have a few pick-n-pull decks here, can sent you the parts.

The pinch roller goes on the shaft and there is a plastic retainer goes on the shaft to hold it in place, It's just a tight fit retainer, There are tons of youtube videos showing the parts, they are pretty much the same for all modern VCRs. If in doubt lookup the service manual.

Hi! Sorry about not replying for awhile. Holidays, unpacking my gear, etc.

Anyway, thanks for all the links. I'm not the most DIY kinda guy around. I'll probably hit up LS for a pin once I've opened up the deck again and have figured out precisely what I need and where it needs to go.
