JVC SR-V101US mode switch?

I ended up buying a relatively cheap jvc sr-v101us. I need to change the capstan motor belt, and thought i would clean the mode switch while i am in there.

Is there a easy way to open this mode switch? I tried using my fingernails to open the latches, but there is no way to get more than one with that method.

I attached a picture of the mode switch in question.
