JVC HR-S9800U grinding/whining when FF->STOP/PLAY
1 Attachment(s)
Attaching a video of the sound.
Basically, when fast forwarding (and sometimes rewind) at high-speed stopping or switching to play will cause a loud grinding/whining sound like someone is slamming on the brakes of a car. This only seems to happen with some tapes. As far as I can tell, there are no other issues with this unit. I had the unit serviced recently, so I reached out to them. It was making similar sounds before it went in, but slightly different. They said what I was describing sounded like it is probably the clutch, but they also said they did replace that during service and if it continues to be an issue I can send it back in and they will take another look. They also said it could possibly be due to the condition of some of the tapes (e.g. sticky shed), seeing as it only seems to do this for some tapes. To the experts here, does the video attached sound like it would be the clutch gear and should I send it back in? Or is it maybe just an expected consequence of working with 30-40 year old tapes of various quality? Any help is appreciated! |
