One question. Do we have good repairmen here that are active members in the forum at the moment ? It'll be nice to know if there are any and if they are reliable.

I have a few issues with an AG1980 deck and was glancing around to see where I could send my unit for fix. I sent a solicitation to JOTS before perusing this thread...meanwhile, they reacted that they have adjusted numerous AG1980 and they could most likely fix mine. Anyway, has anyone managed JOTS as of late? Is the administration in the same class as it used to be?

I have a JVC HR-S9500U I'd like to send in.
Seems to work just fine and tapes look great from this unit. I'd just like it looked over by a knowledgeable individual. Cleaned, lubed, adjusted, heads aligned, belts and rollers changed if needed, etc. prior to digitizing some old tapes from it. I also have an old, clean JVC HR-D566U I'd consider the same treatment for. It's the same model my Dad bought in about 1983 and I used growing up. It'd just be nice to know it was going to last a while longer. The businesses on this list have dwindled! Any current recommendations? |
Last I checked (couple months ago), Bammel TV in Houston was still accepting VCRs for service. https://bammeltv.com/contact-us/

So I hadn't responded to ehbowen's post yet as I was hoping there would be a few more recommendations given.
In general I like to have at least three options when I'm contracting with someone for a service to be completed. As I found next to nothing on my own, and only had the one post here, I contacted Bammel via email and asked about sending in my JVC HR-S9500U and having some refurbishing done. Specifically mentioning the work in the last post found here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr-...ing-guide.html They responded later the same day with: "Sure, we are the go-to guys for such service. We'd charge a $99 bench minimum for the JVC, this would apply to any larger repair. If you want total refurb of all the elements named above, you could be looking at ~$375-400. A simpler inspection/cleaning/servicing, maybe some belts, might run half that; we'd ascertain upon inspection and advise". Now the only reviews I really found for Bammel were on Yelp and quite poor at that. :mad4: I'm hoping those reviews were from individuals with very unreal expectations or from those that are just very sad or angry in general and only know how to express life through negative response. So with that said I have shipped off my 9500 with a $99 check for the initial assessment. I'll report back if / when I hear something. Here's hoping for a positive outcome! :congrats: |
Bammel is good to go.
My 9500 needed a cleaning and alignment. No parts needed replacement. Total was $232.65 which included return shipping with expanding foam packaging upgrade. I'm planning on sending in the D566U in the very near future (which I'm expecting at least belt replacement). |

An old thread, but more relevant than ever.
I have had 2 JVCs serviced, adeptly, successfully, at John's TV in Taunton, MA. Easily found on the web. Nice guy, family business, reasonable, thorough. He refurbished my 7800U, and my 4800U, and my Toshiba W-808 is next in the queue. Any questions, ask me, or John would be better, he's the MAN! |

Send a pm to aramkolt. He’s a member here and does superior work. I’ve used his services and he is outstanding.

I'm curently looking for one located in Canada, preferably, around Montreal. Thanks for your reply, BTW. |
He's located in the US. Other than that will recommend him myself
