Panasonic AG-1830 will not power on

I have a real nice Panasonic 1830 that will not power on. I have replaced all electrolytic caps in the power supply (can style) and power supply still makes a squeaky noise when first plugged in. Only makes the noise for maybe a half second but no power output to machine. Has anyone worked on the 1830 power supply? I would like to get this machine running as it looks to be a low time VCR. The VCR ran good when put in storage a few years ago. Fuse is good and nothing appears to be burnt. No bad smells.

Does the drum spin as soon as its plugged in? Most VCRs (not just Panasonic) do a self test when power is first applied. These decks can have cap troubles from what I have read. Is there any sort of pilot light or clock display indicating standby power? Quick search found a PDF of the power supply schematics (attached). A full service manual is likely out there somewhere. Check the power supply itself to see if there are additional failures. If ok, check the standby power circuit.

that is a really old deck and it is probably bad cap city in there.
it dosent just have to be in the power supply either.
there are probably hundreds of caps in that deck.

NJroadfan, Thanks for the Schematic. The VCR does nothing no drum spinning or lights of any kind. Only thing that happens is when the power cord is plugged in it makes a short noise kind of like a cross between a sizzle and a spring creaking for a half second. Even when isolated from the VCR it still makes the noise. Volksjager may be right about this one may not be worth fixing. There are a lot of caps.

I've never heard of a AG-1830. It must be old.
Does it even have modern necessities like TBC or other picture-cleaning filters?
What did you use it for?

He's right, it may not be worth fixing if it lacks those criteria.

it is an early 90's deck - along the lines of an AG-1960
no TBC and probably a G-Mech - really only good for rewinding tapes

The AG-1830 is from the late 80s. It apparently has all the digital effects gimmicks my Sony SL-HF860D Beta deck has like freeze frame and mosaic. Its actually one of Panasonic's first prosumer SVHS decks and one of the first plagued by electrical problems since it has surface mount caps.

Any Panny deck built before that is usually still working, the most they need is a power supply recap and belts!
