Panasonic AG-1980 Under-Saturation

Hey all,

I've noticed my Panasonic AG-1980 machine has been playing fairly dark coupled with under-saturated colours recently. The blacks seem especially plugged in.

If I toggle the TBC switch to OFF everything gets much brighter and more saturated.

Is this a common problem? Or, more importantly, is this something that can be fixed?

Thanks in advance to anyone who's able to help out.
:)

probably caps on the Y/C card going bad - the fate of many AG-1980's unfortunatly

Thanks, volksjager.

I sent an email to JOTS Electronics several days ago about getting it repaired, but I haven't heard back.
Really need this beast fixed. Can't seem to find anyone nearby who can help me out. Heck, finding someone in Canada would be nice. lol

Call Jots. It's faster than email. I'm not sure if they're still doing S-VHS VCR repair, however. If not them, then use Southern Advantage.

That's definitely a capacitor issue. The caps have likely dried up. Electrolytes dry out in 5-10 years. Get them replaced, and the machine will be as good as new once more.

Good luck!

Thanks guys.

I took your advice and gave JOTS a call. Turns out they did get my email but had been holding off in replying because they've been experiencing shipping problems to Canada.
If the shipping issue is fixed and they're helping me, they approximate $325-$350 for repairs (based on other units with similar sounding problems)

Would be great if they can help out.
Very friendly people. Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I would have found them otherwise!
