HR-S9911U static playback shows "Use cleaning tape"

Hello,

After a few uses on my 9911, im getting "use cleaning tape" on screen and only static, no pic. I do get audio just fine. I cleaned video and audio heads just as described here in the forums, also demagnetized audio and still have static. is there a certain reset process or did something go kaput? any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Well, the onscreen messages is ridiculous -- a cleaning tape is just a amateur fix. I wonder what the actual error is. That would have been a far more useful message on screen! So now you have to try and figure out what caused it.

I would jump to any conclusions, and I've never encountered a problem with a magnetized VCR ever -- not in 20 years. I'm a skeptic when that is claim to be the problem, having seen probably 100 (or more?) VCRs in my day.

Well i just put the next tape in and it just started to play static with perfect audio...does anyone have any pointers where to start with this kind of symptom? I wasn't doing anything different...

how did you clean? that sound like a dirty head
use 91% alcohol and chamois

I used 99% & chamois, held it very still against head and turned head manually.

Did you ever solve this one? If so, how?

it seemed to have fixed itself, and is still working great. maybe humidity had something to do with it?
