AKAI VS-S99EOG chroma problem?
Hi,
I own an Akai VS-S99EOG, which is very similar in circuitry with Mitsubishi HS-E70. The unit was bought by me 16 years ago from a previous owner. Been using it for 8 years and for the last 8 years I retired it (not used at all). Now I decided to give it a try. Unfortunatelly it developed a series of problems, some were solved by me (like replacing a melted belt), some by a friend with knowledge in electronics and hi-fi enthusiast. Unfortunately there is a problem that persists and has eluded him so far. The problem seems to lay in the chroma path during play operation, as it messes a bit with the colors (horizontal stripes). The unit is recording very well in both VHS and S-VHS, but has this colors problem in playing both VHS and S-VHS tapes. My friend has another two JVC S-VHS machines, he could test the Akai recordings on them, the problem seems to lay in playing mode. Any idea where he can try and find the problem ? We do have the schematics, oscilloscope and ways to measure electric components, voltages, etc. Any help and suggestion is appreciated. Thanks. |
Akai VS-99EOG chroma problem
I notice it's an old post, If you stll have the vs-99, have a look at IC-2A3 (this is the Mitsubishi E/U-70 ic number), there is an smd capacitor on that little pcb that leaks.

Thanks for the reply. I solved (well, not me personally) the problem some years ago. It was due to a faulty quartz crystal.
