Panasonic NV FS100 - new caps, but no sound?
 

I have an NV FS100 on which I needed to replace some capacitors on the power supply. The machine now works again but after just a second or two the sound cuts out on playback.
Does anybody have any ideas, please?

Try it, nevertheless, with another recorder.

Possibly the fact that your recorder recognises no "Längsspur" audio.

This is why we also have several recorders.

It is definitely not the tapes as all my tapes behave in the same way. It gives the impression that after a few seconds the tape is becoming misaligned on the audio heads but I do not think that is so becauxe it affects both the nicam stereo and the linear audio. I believe that the stereo tracks are part of the vjdeo head or am I wrong?

I did not disturb the drive mechanism when removing the power pcb to replace the capacitors.

Yes, there I must have misunderstood what.
I have a recorder which can also issue no linear audio.
But I have more than 45 setters, from the easy Consumer up to the most expensive Broadcast, I will not repair everybody any more.

Give the recorder to a TV engineer to the repair.
It is good if one several recorders has.

Here I still have the predecessor of NV-FS100.
FS-88 and the successor NV-FS-200.
However, both are used only seldom.

You either missed a cap, or inadvertently made some other error in the repair. It happens. Just go back and verify each solder point, as well as each cap. It's probably something simple.

I know this thread is old now but I hope someone will look at it anyway.
I actually have the same problem but with a NV FS90. I can hear the sound for the first 1 or 2 seconds, then it stops. If I pause and play again the sound starts and then stops again.
I also noticed that the counter doesn't count anymore both when playing, FFWD and rewind, although it works during recording!

I haven't made any soldering or replacements, I just switched the vcr on after a couple of years which wasn't used.

I had this exact problem on an older Panasonic vcr. It was caused by a failed capacitor in circuit with the ACE head. As the VCR could not see the CTL pulses it muted the sound and the counter was of course also unable to work as that relies on CTL pulses. Look at the circuit diagram and find capacitors in the early stages of the control head output. I fitted new capacitors and all was well. Check for purple ones - these are problematic and caused my problems.
