JVC HR-S6900U turns off after tape insert or eject?
 

I just got a 6900. Plug her in and it flashes the time. If I hit the power button it will power on, try to take the tape and then power off. I have been able to after multiple tries to take a tape and when it does it works and will not power off. Though most of the time it will try to load the tape and then power off. Or it will try to take the tape then eject it and then power off. I have read some of the other posts from years ago. I don't think it is a DD problem.

Usually powering off is caused by some sensor not seeing what it expects - so turns off. May be just one tooth out of alignment in the cassette carriage or loading gears. have you taken the to off to see what it is doing? If the unit was jarred in the post it may just need resetting.

As usual, the problems I have started to morph into something else. I tried to get some video in another room. Now the VCR doesn't power off but when inserting a tape it will try to sit get stuck and then try to eject and sit there. I'll try to get a video uploaded asap.

The 6900 was not a suggested model, too old.

A JVC just cutting power is a failsafe of every JVC S-VHS deck I've seen or heard about. Something inside is direly wrong, and can be quite a few things at fault: cracked/broken gears, brittle/broken/stretched bands, etc. And there really is not a typical issue with non-9600-9911 units (where that it usually the dynamic drum gear seizing for various reasons, including being cracked, toothless, or broken).

It's very unlikely for such issues to be caused by shipping, meaning it's been bad since before you got it, therefore it's the typical case of a shady eBay seller. This is the sort of stuff I warn others about all the time.

I was just going by your post from 2009. Which is really old but that is on me. The person was kind enough to immediately refund my money. I uploaded the few videos in case I'm not finding the correct words to describe and let it speak for itself.

If I ever wrote 6900, it was a typo. HR-S9600 is the suggested model.

The 6000 series models from the late 80s and early 90s have been praised before, by others, but the lack of TBC just makes it a good lower-end S-VHS VCR like the 3800. I like my 3800, it performs well, but it's not the same caliber as a with-TBC JVC. It's just not.

Tape threading cycle not being completed could be issue. Replace belt or gears if needed. If tape loads, plays for few secs, then suspect idler assembly or reel table issue. These could range from bad sensors to faulty/worn reel assemblies, depending on setup used. Don';t forget if vcr has counter (analog), belt can be issue.
