RCA CMR 300 camcorder gears grinding?
Hey guys I just got this camera and I have this problem where the gears seem to be stuck grinding. I made a quick video of it here https://youtu.be/YjJWYawUgzA
I really wanna get this working if I can. |
Bada-bump. Any ideas?

Is there a tape stuck inside?
Are there any other belts or other rubber parts that are work beyond usefulness? Sticking as you describe implies some gears/moving parts may be out of sync. You maybe able to find a service manual for it on line, might have to pay for one, taht woull help trouble shoot it. |
There’s no tape, it ejects just fine. After looking at it I think maybe the gears ARE out of alignment as one appears to be halfway up and the other all the way down so that maaay fix it but the gears are very tight, almost like they’ve rusted shut.

Service manuals normally cover the alignment (timing) of the gears in the mechanism.

Well after scouring the googles I have found the manual for an rca cpr 250 which is similar so I’ll try that. I can’t find anything on the cmr 300 sadly.
-- merged -- The manual had nothing to say about the cameras internals, only it’s features. I’ll try to get the gears reset tomorrow -- merged -- I think I may have figured it out but I’m still stuck. The red line bit cane loose from the blue wheel but it cannot reconnect unless the green bar slides back but it absolutely won’t budge. I see no obstruction but I’m going to take it apart to see. https://imgur.com/a/ZQ3p5WE |

Please do that, don't use Imgur/etc. |
If by "green bar" you mean the big metal piece above the green line, it's normally moved by the tape loading/unloading mechanism. It's generally possible to move the loading mechanism manually, but the procedure varies with different vcrs/cameras. I don't think the bar will be movable by simply pushing on it as the gears connecting to it will create a lot of resistance.

Okay so I got it all moving and it acts like it’s going to work. I put the vhs in, press record, the gears move and bam it dies instantly. I turn it back on, it resets position and does the same thing. I’m using the wall plug so it’s not a battery issue.
