Problem recording VHS tapes on Emerson VT0955?
 

Hi there,

I wanted to try recording VHS tapes on an old VCR/TV, just to see if I could.

The result was flashing bars over any area of color (pictures attached, black bars are just the scanlines seen by the camera).

Result was the same with different inputs and different tapes, and the input always looks great when seen on the screen.

I'm new to this kind of thing, is this something that can be solved with a cleaning or should I give it up?

It may have been Macrovision detection, be it legit or false. Hard to tell from the photos of a TV screen.

No, cleaning will likely not do anything. (Aside from make it worse, if not cleaned properly.)
