Good quality capture device in 2020?

Hi,
I know this has been asked a lot but I am still unsure about what to buy as the suggested ATI 600 is out of stock everywhere. I already have two camcorders to play back my VHS-C (PAL) and Video 8 (NTSC) tapes. I was thinking of getting the Elgato Video Capture device, but thought it might not provide the best quality. My budget for the capture device is ~$150 if you could suggest better ones.

Thanks

The Elgato is not a good card -- with the main reason being that Elgato has no model numbers, and the "card" has been around for over a decade now. So many production changes and variations to the card that you have no idea what you're getting. And most in recent years appear to be low-end Easycap rebadges. The max resolution is 640x480, and should also be a major turn-off.

I still have a few capture cards, listed in the marketplace subforum, for under $150, including the ATI 600 USB.

Old school aiw works of xp. You have to find a p4 with agp for aiw cards. You can get something newer for usb version, but always xp.
If you want to use a more recent pc, you have to go with alternative solutions:

You have to buy a svhs and an hi8 decks. Than, find out a way to stabilize signal :D

Thanks for your response. So you also believe the ATI 600 USB provides good quality? Do you suggest other alternatives for lossless/near lossless conversion? Can ATI 600 handle both PAL and NTSC?

ati600 is one of the best for capture.

I have both a Diamond VC-500 and a Hauppage WinTV-HVR850. I actually prefer the 850 but both are good cards that work in W10. The VC-500, for me, only has brightness and contrast sliders active, the 850 has nearly all sliders working in the proc amp, and also has a crop window, although I do not use it.

@lordsmurf
Could you respond?

Q: So you also believe the ATI 600 USB provides good quality?
A: Yes.

Q: Do you suggest other alternatives for lossless/near lossless conversion?
A: Yes. ATI AIW is one of the best cards every made, but XP only, hence 600 USB is already an alternative.

Q: Can ATI 600 handle both PAL and NTSC?
A: Yes.
