Color streaks, washed out color on VHS?

Hello all ,

New to the forums here but i have been reading and getting lots of good solid information from these posts.
I am involved in a community digitization project that requires archival level captures. So I am using the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for that purpose. I have also found a S-VHS player with s-video output that I am passing through an LG dvd recorder for my "TBC" or frame sync. The setup works fine and I am able to capture uncompressed video from VHS tapes without much of a problem.
However , My purpose for writing here is to ask about the images that im capturing. The video is very sharp and detailed which i think is great for the archival captures, but what i noticed in the captures is color streaks and in some scenes of any given VHS the colors are washed out.

I have included and i hope they show up , pics of my setup and screenshots of captured video that show the streaks. I have read some place around here that it could be leaking caps or even the power supply which if that is the case , then id like to have that fixed. Is this a problem that i could fix myself or am i just stuck with these captures ?

It's chroma noise.

You need not just a S-VHS VCR, but a S-VHS VCR with line TBC.

That LG is not any kind of TBC. At best, it has a frame sync (not frame sync TBC). It can, and will, wretch on many tapes. There will be a fail rate. Either quality will suffer, or tapes will outright refuse to capture.

Blacmagic cards are known to drop frames, even when reporting no dropped frames. It's not archival quality. It can somewhat decently capture the color palette (YUV, IRE), but that's about it, and that's not good enough.

Can you post samples/photos without DVD recorder and another one without both DVD recorder and capture card, straight to TV? Try to see if that chroma bleed is baked in the tape or not. Also, have you tried DNR ON if VCR has it?
