Comments on DNR+TBC in Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U?
 

Hello all!

I am evaluating the quality of video that I am capturing with:

1. Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U VCR
2. Hauppauge USB Live 2 capture device
(Capturing with Composite, although S-Video is possible)


The Mitsu VCR contains built-in TBC + DNR (digital noise reduction). I am curious as to how good these features are. So I created a video where one of the sides is the video with TBC+DNR and the other side is without. :wink2:

I have some questions for enthusiasts and experts:

1. Which side do you think has TBC+DNR enabled?
2. What are some clear "tells" that identify what TBC+DNR is doing? (feel free to point to a timestamp or frame in the video with your thoughts)
3. How good is the TBC+DNR?

For those who have experience with these two devices. What are your general thoughts on them? How did you maximize quality?

If S-Video is possible so why are you wasting time capturing from a lower quality output?

I know line TBC fixes the scan lines wiggle as shown in the right side but I have no idea why it would darken the picture, It's either a mediocre implementation or your TBC board started to have problems, On my HR-S7600 analog VCR the line TBC have effect only on lines and chroma noise, it will not change the picture brightness or contrast.

For fun, but also waiting for my shielded S-Video cables to arrive next week. :)

Maybe post another sample when you get the S-Video cable, Because the TBC one looks too dark.

Will do. I was also surprised by how the TBC affected the brightness. This device combines TBC and DNR with one toggle (both have to be on or both have to be off). I am not sure what "digital noise reduction" it actually does.
