Issues with VirtualDub, preview disappears?

Hello,
So my pinnacle Moviebox PLUS 510 USB card came and I'm using it right now and I got to say it works very nice compared to the cheap one I had. I found out that the S-video cable only output the DVD so I cannot use it to out whatever is in the VCR (my VCR is toshiba sd-v296). I am also having trouble with Virtual dub specifically VirtualDub 1.10.4. Here is how I set up 1. I downloaded the pinnacle drivers for Windows 10 from LordSmurf in a post he did. (picture 1) 2. I shut down my computer and turned it back on 3. Downloaded the Crossbar thing which was not necessary anymore as the S-Video only outputs the DVD. 4. So I go in VirtualDub 1.10.4 and I go to "Capture AVI", go to Video -> click preview And then I cant see what the VCR is outputting anymore. (picture 2) However, it still does capture whatever the VCR is playing but the annoying thing is, is that I cant see what it is capturing real time. -- merged -- Another issue I have is that Virtualdub 1.10.4 just stop responding after a while when i try to change any settings for capturing and I don't know why. I am also on a windows 10 version 1903 |
Was Overlay fine? Why did you change to Preview mode?
Use VirtualDub 1.9.x, not 1.10.x |
Still doesnt work

What graphics card?
Some systems need Windows set to use the onboard graphics for VirtualDub, not Nvidia? VirtualDub Filtermod 40121 can sometimes work better, at times, some cards, some systems. We need to try it next. Not yet, not there yet. But next. DirectX may need to be disabled in main VirtualDub settings. |
Graphics card

My computer specs are CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core Processor 16 GB of DDR4 corsair vengeance ram NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 ti and other stuff that isn't important |
I don't remember which post had my instructions for this. Something about VirtualDub, brightness, Pinnacle. Back around Feb of this year. Paginate back through the capture forum posts, to around Jan/Feb/March.
But the issue is likely in not letting VirtualDub run from the onboard (CPU's GPU) graphics for VirtualDub. Nvidia doesn't support video capture very well, at times. Right-click desktop, find graphics card settings, and then change VirtualDub to use onboard. |
is this where you want me to go?

Anothing thing, I don't know if it is because of virtualdub but on some occasions my computer just freezes without any sign of coming back on so I have to force it to shut down. This has never happened before considering it happen 3 times when I first put the pinnacle capture card |
I don't know what that is -- not what I refer to.
