First VHS capture (ATI 600 USB, WinXP), how to improve it?
 

setup:
panasonic dmr-es46v -> s-video -> ati 600 usb -> virtualdub -> avi

sample capture attached. i've also attached one with reduced sharpening and contrast based no msgohan's feedback from previous thread.

(the other thread was about windows 10. since i'm using windows xp now so i'm starting a new thread)

the samples are original quality so they're really short.

i've seen screenshots of ati 600 usb proc amp online but i can't find it in my settings. i looked in catalyst media center but it's not in there. i adjusted the virtualdub levels instead.

i couldn't really tell that there was jitter. i disabled the overlay during capture in virtualdub. hopefully that had some effect.

VirtualDub's Levels control is actually a hook into the standard "Proc Amp" in the WDM API, so it's the same thing. :)

Luckily, the ATI 600 on XP is one of the devices where Levels works. Some capture device/driver/OS combinations make this inaccessible.

The second clip looks better.

The line jitter I mentioned will be most visible along vertically-running lines (columns) in the video, like the credits sequence of a movie containing the capital letters "I" and "T", if you want to sample some more appropriate content. :)

here's a clip of the credits. since this is from tv the credits aren't fullscreen and it's a bit hard to see line jitter. or maybe it's there and i don't really know what to look for.

i also noticed the other clips i posted were so big because they're raw, not huffyuv.
