I must be able to view the downloading project live.
i am presently looking at the Avermedia $80.00.

Also is there a software (free or purchased) no subscriptions.

I intend on downloading dvd's onto my computer's hardrive.

Probably nothing good, no. Up it to $150, and you have great options.
Aside from this, OS matters. So what OS, what version?

Huh? :unsure:

downloading != capturing
And what do you mean "view it live"? Explain.

Avermedia is a brand, not a card. What card?

From what source? Lossless captures? There's more involved that just "changing" the video, but Hybrid is a good freeware. I use this myself regularly.

Ripping discs to the computer?
Not actually downloading?

Why?

I'm confused too. Ripping DVD's to computer has nothing to do with capture cards.

DVD video is already digital, not analog. So it's very easy to import it to your computer simply by using your computer's DVD drive (if it doesn't have one you can purchase a USB external DVD drive) in conjunction with software like makemkv.
