Panasonic ES10 cross hatch pattern?
 

Hello all,

I have a Panasonic ES10 that I use with a Blackmagic 4k video card to record directly from DVD or in pass through mode with my NV1000 VHS player.
I experience this cross hatch effect on the video (see attached) when the ES10 is inline for both DVD and VHS sources. NV1000 direct to Blackmagic card does not have the issue. The image is rock solid stable.

Has anyone seen this before?

Did you try with a different cable? A bad s-video cable can sometimes cause issues like this.

Does it also occur on component output (red/green/blue rca cables, may have to adjust menu settings for it.)

Would also suggest looking for any bulging capacitors in the power supply, which is common on these dvd-recorders and can cause noise and other issues.

Interesting that you suggested the s-video cable. It is a brand new cable (5m) however I have since found this link that suggests that a poorly shielded S-Video cable can be subject to external RF and the example they give is very similar to the original issue ( http://www.avartifactatlas.com/artif..._decoding.html ). I have ordered a better quality cable (as much as you can tell by ordering online) and will route it away from all other cables and machines to see if it makes a difference.

Will also try component output and take a look at the power supply as well.

You don't really have to use 5m long cable, Keep in mind the longer the cable the more noise it picks up, I personally use 40cm cables maximum.
