Is this Video8 capture noise acceptable?

Is this type/level of noise from Video8 tape expected (see attached)? I purposefully chose a dark scene where it was obvious, so it is worse than normal but what I'm wanting to know is whether or not this noise is inherent to the medium or camera. Is there something I need to tweak with my capture setup/settings. I am not worried about restoration and avisynth scripting here to make it better yet, just wanting to check my capture setup.

Equipment:
- Video8 tape
- Sony Hi8 camcorder (TBC On, DNR Off)
- ES-15 Passthrough (Noise Reduction Off)
- ATI 600 USB (via S-video)
- VirtualDub 1.9.11 (Huffyuv, no filters)

Thanks

For a low light scene like that, it looks perfectly normal. In fact, it resembles what my miniDV camera would produce under the same conditions.

Thank you for the sanity check!

^+1 The noise is consistent with what I would expect from Video8 under poor light conditions.

You may want to turn ON the DNR to see what it can do and compare it to the actual sample.

Honestly I can't tell a difference but here are some clips if you're able to tell. I guess I'll just leave both off to disable extra processing if it's not doing anything positive, unless my logic is faulty? I know the clip is short and specific.

(Note: These look different than the first example. I recaptured because I have been playing with some levels to get rid of some bad red/pink cast and bleed in all the tapes I've got and get things better in bounds histogram-wise)
